Avant de mettre le blog entre parenthèses pendant une petite semaine (le temps pour moi de rapporter plein de "photos-voyage" de New York City ... yeah ! ;)), je poste une photo qui témoigne du sérieux des Canadiens lorsqu'il s'agit de décorer son jardin et sa maison pour Halloween, qui a lieu samedi (nous serons dans les rues de NY pour assister à la grande parade !) ...

Sur une des façades (photo du haut) flotte le drapeau de la "communauté" du quartier de Cabbagetown (ci-dessous), dont le nom provient des immigrants Irlandais qui s'y sont installés à partir de la fin des années 1840, dont on dit qu'ils étaient si pauvres qu'ils cultivaient des choux devant leurs maisons.

[Younge Street] (pronounce "young") was formerly listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest street in the world at 1896 km, and is a national historic site.

Highway 11 was a part of Yonge Street, which led to claims that Yonge Street was the longest street in the world. Running from the shores of Lake Ontario, through central and northern Ontario to the Ontario-Minnesota border at Rainy River, together they were over 1,896 kilometres long. But Yonge Street could only be called the longest street in the world if "Highway 11" and "Yonge Street" were synonymous, which is not the case anymore. The original Yonge Street continues along its original alignment, ending in Holland Landing. This alignment was extended over the years, and today ends just south of Lake Simcoe.

Yonge Street is fundamental in the planning and layout of Toronto and Ontario, forming the basis of the concession roads in Ontario. It was also the site of Canada's first subway line.
